The World of Kyrnd
The Ferryman, Charon, takes the souls of those who can pay a single copper coin, known as a Charon’s Obol, across the River of Death to their final resting place, and peace. Those who cannot pay, or are not willing to cross, must wander or wait for eternity on the shores of the River of Death. For those that could not pay, they wait, hoping that someone else who comes after will pay for their passage.
Many souls who were denied passage grow tired of waiting, and try and cross on their own, but the black waters drag them in, where many damned souls now dwell, waiting for unwary petitioners and luring them in, hoping to steal their Obol.
